Vanderpump Rules Tom Schwartz Learns His Brother Is Hospitalised, May Have Cirrhosis Due to 'Dependency on Alcohol'

Tom Schwartz is opening out about his younger brother, Robert "Bert" Schwartz, who suffers from alcoholism.

On Tuesday's episode of Vanderpump Rules, the 41-year-old informs Lisa Vanderpump that he received "really bad news"

Bert, revealing that his brother was rushed to the hospital from rehab. He also believes Bert may have cirrhosis.

According to the National Institutes of Health, cirrhosis is a disorder that causes the liver to scar and become permanently damaged.

Scar tissue replaces good tissue, eventually preventing the liver from functioning normally. Chronic alcohol misuse is one of the causes of cirrhosis.

According to Schwartz, Bert used to be "this ray of sunshine" before he developed a "dependency on alcohol."

He confessed that the health issue has caused him to reconsider his own alcohol use and drinking habits, with the goal of "moderation."

Later on the evening, Schwartz told Lala Kent, who marked five years of sobriety in October, that he's been feeling "sober curious"

Kent was sceptical, however, and questioned the meaning of the statement.

Schwartz discussed his drinking habits on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live in 2018.
