The coast and inland of Southern California were shaken early Friday afternoon by a magnitude-4.6 earthquake northwest of Malibu.

 In the Santa Monica Mountains 7 miles northwest of Malibu, the quake occurred before 2 p.m.

 Within an hour, the same area had over a dozen aftershocks, the greatest of which were 3.0 and 2.7.

 Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones stated, "It's got a very robust aftershock sequence," and the likelihood that the quake was a foreshock to a larger seismic event rapidly declines.

 From the South Bay and Long Beach in LA, Orange, and Ventura counties to the San Fernando Valley, downtown LA, Riverside, Irvine, and Anaheim, the tremor was felt.
