Italy: the results of the first night of Sanremo 2024

Every year, Sanremo feels like a marathon. For over a week, millions of viewers in Italy and throughout the world talked about Sanremo

watched Sanremo, and sang Sanremo songs. The 74th Sanremo Festival began last night at the Teatro Ariston

And, as we expected, it took a long time for all 30 participants to take the stage.

Can Mahmood secure a surprising third victory? Only three singers have won more than twice in the contest's history:

Iva Zanicchi (1967, 1969, and 1974), Claudio Villa (1955, 1957, 1962, and 1967), and Domenico Modugno (1958-59, 1962, and 1966), who share the record of four wins.

Female vocalists appear to be doing well at the top of the provisional rankings. The most recent woman to win Sanremo was Arisa in 2014 with Controvento.

Only 15 of the 30 candidates will sing again tonight, on the second evening of the competition. This time, however, votes will come from both the radio jury (50%) and the televote (50%). Amadeus will be joined by Giorgia, the winner of Sanremo 1995.

Only the top five performers from tonight will be disclosed.  John Travolta, an American actor and singer, has been named as a special guest, together with the globally known pianist Giovanni Allevi.

The first four shows of Sanremo 2024 will begin at 20:40 CET, with the final on Saturday at 20:30 CET. Eurofans can watch it on these channels:
