Bobby Babich becomes Buffalo Bills' Defensive Coordinator.

The Buffalo Bills were able to keep an up-and-coming coach on staff when they promoted linebackers coach Bobby Babich to defensive coordinator on Tuesday.

The Bills were concerned that Babich would leave after interviews with the Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, and Green Bay Packers.

It was a significant decision for Buffalo, given the team did not have a defensive coordinator previous season, with head coach Sean McDermott calling the defence.

Babich's track record speaks for itself. Safety Micah Hyde earned his first Pro Bowl berth in 2017 while serving as the team's assistant defensive backs coach, and youngster Tre'Davious White had an immediate impact on the team

Babich became safeties coach from 2018 to 2022, during which time Hyde and Jordan Poyer elevated their games to new heights, winning All-Pro honours.

Linebacker Matt Milano was named All-Pro last season and was regarded as one of the league's best. Despite losing Milano, Babich led Terrell Bernard and Tyrel Dodson to great seasons that exceeded expectations.

After Leslie Frazier left 11 months ago, Babich was a candidate for defensive coordinator until McDermott took over.

The only question remaining is whether McDermott will allow Babich to call defensive plays.
