BAFTA Awards 2024 Highlights

The 77th annual BAFTA Awards, hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, celebrated the best in film.

Unlike the Oscars, the BAFTA nominations differed significantly, with notable contenders like Barbie receiving fewer nominations.

Lily Gladstone, a potential frontrunner for the best actress Oscar, was overlooked by the British awards.

Despite frontrunners like Oppenheimer performing well, the BAFTA wins and losses hinted at a shift in momentum as Oscar voting commenced.

The BAFTA Awards departed from recent American awards shows by not being hosted by a comedian this year.

Actor David Tennant hosted the ceremony, with performances by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who sang "Murder on the Dancefloor," and Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddington, who performed "Time After Time" during the In Memoriam segment.

The inclusion of diverse performers added a unique touch to the awards ceremony.

The BAFTA Awards provided a platform to recognize outstanding achievements in film while showcasing musical talents and departing from traditional hosting norms.
