2023 CMAs: Lainey Wilson Cleans Up, Sets Records

At Wednesday's (20 Nov. 8), 2023 CMA Awards ceremony at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, Lainey Wilson took home the top prize.

Wilson tied Johnny Cash's 1969 record for most category wins in a single year with five, a mark that was later matched by Vince Gill (1993) and Alan Jackson (2002).

For a female artist, this also establishes a new record for one year. On the same night, Alison Krauss, Taylor Swift, and Miranda Lambert each took home four awards.

Winner of both "new artist" and "entertainer of the year" were Wilson within a year of each other

That connects Garth Brooks's 1990 "sprint from the horizon" (the name of the award for new artists at the time) and 1991 "entertainer of the year"

That rate of change is unprecedented in CMA history. A woman's win for entertainer of the year is noteworthy in and of itself. Wilson becomes the first female winner in that category since 2011's Taylor Swift.

Wilson split two awards with HARDY: musical event of the year and music video of the year.

She also won album of the year and female vocalist of the year. Wilson had won female vocalist of the year for the past two years running.

She has won six of those awards in a row between 2010 and 2015, making her the first artist to do it since Miranda Lambert.
